Rutherford Technology High School will dash for the semi-finals of the State-wide Buckley Shield tomorrow.
Maitland Showground will host the quarter final battle between RTHS and North Sydney’s Cromer High School.
Cromer High won the North Sydney division of the competition and could be up against an equal opponent on Friday; the Rutherford outfit breezed through the competition’s first six games conceding just 42 points before getting a scare from Camden Haven High School, winning 22-16.
Rutherford High will field the same team tomorrow as took the field against the Camden Haven side, with one change; the return of star prop Jake Turnbull is expected to give the team a psychological boost at least, says coach Paul Johns.
“He has been the player’s player in a few of our earlier games, so that will give the boys a bit of a boost I think,” he said. Turnbull missed the last game through a shoulder injury. A win on Friday would see RTHS go through to a semi final in Wyong.
Buses will be available to take RTHS students to the quarter final showdown and support their team.
