Alex Humphreys loves to run.
The Year 6 student from Hunter Valley Grammar School will hit the track as part of the Combined Independent Schools team at the NSW Primary School Sports Association cross country competition on Friday.
Humphreys will run the three kilometre race at Eastern Creek and she told the Mercury she wasn’t sure how she would go.
Humphreys made the CIS team after finishing sixth at the Combined Independent School championships.
“I’m very thrilled,” the 11-year-old said.
“I’ve always really liked running.”
Last year Humphreys finished eighth and missed out on CIS, making her qualification run this year all the sweeter.
“It was a bit of a disappointment to finish eighth,” she said.
School director of sport, Tony Burgess, said that Humphreys had continued to improve as an athlete and was a strong chance at the PSSA race.
