Angry Rutherford residents want speed humps placed at the end of Regiment Road near the New England Highway.
The call came after a ute slammed through two fences and wrecked property worth thousands of dollars.
Ian Paton ran out when the ute sped off to find his Ford Falcon smashed, his garage wrecked and the walls pushed into his Daihatsu truck.
“My grandchildren often play out here,” Mr Paton said.
“I don’t dare to think about what might have happened if this ute had ripped into my place while they were playing.”
Mr Paton said many of the street’s residents were willing to sign a petition calling for speed humps near the highway.
“This is beyond a joke and we’ve all had enough,” he said.
“I was in bed and woke about 5am on Saturday to hear a vehicle’s engine revving.
“Then I heard its tyres squealing as the ute took off again, its wheels squealing as if a madman was driving.
“When I came outside, I saw this carnage in my backyard.
“The ute must have been flying down the 60kph road at about 100kph when it fish-tailed and the driver lost control.
“After sheering through my neighbour’s fence, it struck the side of my Falcon, damaging it so badly that it is a write-off.
“The force of the impact then took out the corner of my garage, sent several oxygen bottles hurtling across the yard and damaged my Daihatsu truck.”
Mr Paton said two people saw a Ford utility reverse away from the accident scene and information had been given to police.
“I am still totalling up the cost, which will be several thousand dollars,” Mr Paton said.
“There have been some really bad accidents round here in the past few years and we are all lucky nobody has been seriously injured.
“A lot of people want to sign our petition calling for some speed humps.”
His neighbour, Dennis O’Neil, came home with his family on Saturday to find a section of his fence demolished.
“We will all sign this petition to have speed humps put in near our homes,” Mr O’Neil said.
“We have been here two years and this sort of thing happens all the time.
“They all take off from the highway when they come down Regiment Road, then they lose it and create chaos.”
A Central Hunter police spokesman said investigations into this incident were continuing.
